Buddleja davidii (Syrikkä)

Because of my great interest to butterflies too, I had to buy Buddleja, actually two of them. It is claimed to be absolutely the best flower to attract nymphalid butterflies. And it really does! It flowers just at the same time as the second generation of nymphalids crawl out of their pupas and when they have their main migration season too. Unfortunately Buddleja is not very winter hardy and most people try to cover it with some isolating material. I have covered my plants with branches from some other bushes and after one unsuccessful winter I have managed to keep my plants alive over several winters just outside the house. The old shoots die but the root survive giving a new growth next summer.
