Evergreen Hedera is common on Baltic sea islands and southernmost Scandinavia. In Finland they have been seen in outside gardens very seldom. My hederas come from Gotland and they have really grown literally filling my green house. I have tried to grow them also outside and they have survived now 2 winters, but not very well. The main reason for problems has not been the temperature between -20 and -30 degrees C but merely the exposure for the spring sun. Most plants look very vital when the snow melts, but then all the leaves dry in sunshine. Only those located in shadow survive. Ca-rich soil helps also the plant by giving the leaves lower freezing point.
